Dihydroxyphenylalanine is a precursor of dopamine, which is a biogenic substance that is formed in the body from tyrosine. L-dopa is a synthetic levorotatory isomer of dihydroxyphenylalanine. Dopamine is also largely responsible for regulating physical movements and emotions, as well as affecting the pleasure and motivation centers of the brain.
