Medium chain triglycerides (MCTs/MCTs) are a unique form of dietary fat known for a number of benefits for health, including weight loss, support for heart health, and improved cognitive function. Fat molecules have a chain length of 2 to 22 carbons, while MCTs are in the middle with 6-12 carbons. Four well-known MCTs are: C6 (caproic acid), C8 (caprylic acid), C10 (capric acid) and C12 (lauric acid). The MCTs that are formulated in Bio-MCT™ are absorbed directly into the portal vein and enter the liver. They also only have 8.3 calories per gram, as opposed to 9 calories per gram in LCT.
