- Fair Trade Certified
Botanical name: Hibiscus sabdariffa L., Hibiscus sabdariffa
Hibiscus is a flowering plant that is part of the same family as cocoa with cotton. Hibiscus flowers are popular as herbal teas, especially in the Caribbean and Latin America. The leaves are alternate, oval to lanceolate, often with a serrated or lobed margin. The flowers are large, conspicuous, trumpet-shaped, with five or more petals. Colors range from white to pink, red, orange, peach, yellow or purple and are 4 to 18 cm wide in size. Hibiscus leaves are often combined with other herbs or fruit juices, as they give the drink a joyful red color and a tart taste. To use as a tea, pour 1 teaspoon of tea into 1 cup of boiling water. Then cover and let the tea brew for 3-5 minutes.
