Enzyme Complex, Ultrazyme (A Polyphasic Enzyme Complex), Douglas Laboratories is a natural dietary supplement from Douglas Laboratories with bile and active digestive enzymes from animal and vegetable sources, which together aid in the digestion of fats, proteins, carbohydrates in the stomach and small intestine. Fat digestion

Fat digestion begins in the mouth with salivary lipase, most triglycerides are broken down by pancreatic lipase, which is secreted by the pancreas into the duodenum.

Digestion of some carbohydrates occurs in the mouth with salivary amylase, but pancreatic amylase is the main carbohydrate-digesting enzyme. It breaks down starches into maltose and maltotriose, which are further hydrolyzed into glucose by disaccharidases, mucosal cells, and then absorbed.

Protein digestion

Protein digestion is initiated in the stomach by pepsin and hydrochloric acid, which denature and break down large proteins into smaller polypeptides. Pancreatic proteinases, trypsin and chymotrypsin break down these polypeptides into free amino acids and di- or tripeptides, which are directly absorbed by the intestinal mucosa.
