5-HTP Plus, 5-HTP Plus Formula, Douglas Laboratories - is a natural metabolite of the amino acid tryptophan, which is converted in the brain to the hormones serotonin and dopamine. As a metabolic intermediate in conversion of tryptophan to serotonin 5-HTP can also serve as a precursor of serotonin. 5-HTP is obtained from the seeds of the Griffonia plant, unlike tryptophan, which is produced synthetically or by bacterial fermentation. 5-HTP enters the brain more easily than tryptophan because it is able to cross the blood-brain barrier and is significantly more beneficial than tryptophan.
